I grew up in suburban Maryland, attended the University of Maryland for my undergraduate degree, and graduated cum laude from Howard University School of Social Work with an MSW in 1996. Since then, I have worked in a few different arenas. The most recent was when I was the Day Treatment Therapist at a local psychiatric hospital where I was in charge of 8 therapy groups per week and conducted individual weekly therapy for about 20 people. I was in charge of coordinating the various individual, couples, and family therapies for individuals with difficulties ranging from severe to mild discontent, writing and evaluating treatment plans, and was the mental health leader for weekly multidisciplinary patient meetings.
I have had a practice in Columbia for more than 20 years. I work closely with several area health providers, collaborate with local guidance counselors regarding teen issues, and communicate regularly (with your consent) with clients’ physicians regarding their care. My specialties include depression, anxiety, abuse, addictions, and relationship issues.
People often want to know what their therapist is like; I have been told I am warm, engaging, and ‘real’. I love to read, write, spend time with my family, and volunteer in the community. I strongly believe in giving back to the community, which makes our lives more fulfilling. My commitment includes being an advocate and regularly speaking about the benefits of good mental health. I have published articles in various magazines and newsletters over the years and if you would like me to address a particular issue, I’d love to hear from you. Please call 301.526.6749
